So this morning, after getting

July 29th, 2000

So this morning, after getting this blog running again (hours spent under the hood, greasy fingernails, dropped the transmission on my toe, etc.), I chugged up to Bethesda for breakfast at the Tastee Diner (beware the cheesy MIDI of “The Entertainer” on that page) with my buddy who’s the restaurant critic for Washington CityPaper.
The Tastee Diner is probably the most sublime diner I have encountered, though my friends criticize me for preferring the newer (40-year old) Bethesda, MD, spot over the original 65-year old location in Silver Springs, MD — which, incidentally, is being picked up and moved across the street to make way for the new offices of the Discovery Channel. Second on my list of Sublime Diners would be the Third Street Diner in Richmond, VA. Two great things about Third Street: it never closes (which isn’t rare for diners, but is rare in Richmond), and all — and I do mean ALL — the waitresses are hot, tattoed, pierced, scantily-clad art students (which, again, probably isn’t rare for diners, but is rare in Richmond). Thinking about it, most of Third Street’s charm is probably a result of there being nothing else like it in Richmond.
After breakfast, we swung by Gateway Country because my friend needs to get rid of his 133 MHz dinosaur and doesn’t know computers from compote. It was a lot of fun to see how little the sales guy at Gateway Country actually knew about computers. At least I know that if I ever lose my job I can always be the smartest salesperson at Gateway Country. When I get back, I find an email in my box about designer computers. I think I’ll make my buddy buy one of those instead.
