Tell it to the judge!
Tell it to the judge! I’m blogging from the District of Columbia Superior Court. They have free phone jacks in the juror lounge now.
Last time I had jury duty (two years ago for DC Superior Court) there was no way to dial-in from the courthouse. So this is a vast improvement, even though there are only six jacks. Demand doesn’t seem to be that high, though.
There’s got to be a way to use technology to make jury duty more efficient. About 80% of jury duty is sitting around waiting. I’ve been here since 8:00 am this morning, and only about 1.75 hours of that time has been spent doing anything remotely court-related. (I was on a jury panel — the group of 60 potential jurors that go through the voir dire process, of which 14 get selected to server on the jury.)
At least a phone jack means I can be productive … or as productive as one can be on a 28.8 connection in a public facility. ;-)
(For the record and if it wasn’t clear already, I’m in court today for jury duty, not because I’m on trial for anything.)
